Safeway Supports Prostate Cancer Foundation

Safeway Stores are conducting their 12th annual campaign to support prostate cancer research this month:
To date, Safeway and The Safeway Foundation have raised more than $68 million for the Prostate Cancer Foundation, the world's largest philanthropic source of support for prostate cancer research. Those donations, provided by Safeway's generous customers, are accelerating game-changing research and discovery at some of the most prestigious cancer centers and research institutions in North America. The outcomes of the nearly 1,600 Safeway-funded research projects include the identification of more than 27 cancer-causing gene fusions, new biomarkers for diagnosis and treatment response assessment and the development of new drugs to deliver more effective treatments for patients with advanced stages of the disease. The death rate has dropped roughly 40 percent in the U.S. alone, meaning nearly 200,000 American men are alive today because of improved treatment.
Safeway (store locator) donates $2 to the PCF for each blue shopping bag purchased; each bag costs $2.95.  Since the fight for men's rights and to improve men's health depends upon actual action and not mere words, I encourage my readers to put their money where their food (and eventually mouth) is, buy some boy-blue bags, and support businesses that advocate on our behalf.

Disclaimer: I am not connected in any way to Safeway or the PCF. I'm was just tickled to see a retail chain support men's health research. A nice change to be sure, for I am accustomed to seeing pink instead of blue ribbons everywhere.

I round up my purchase every time I shop there, and we probably at Safeway 3-5 times a week. Its the only grocery we have near my house. They always do this WOO HOO thing over the PA for every donation. Pretty cool.

This is indeed a good sign to see. I gave up on cancer research donations a while back when the charity i supported after my brothers death to Multiple Myeloma inexplicably changed its name from 'the Weekend to End Cancer' to 'the Weekend to End WOMEN'S Cancers'

http://www.endcancer.ca/

I gave them a mouthful and terminated all funding for basically relegating my brothers death to irrelevant due to his gender.

Tired of seeing pink take precedence.
